Local healthcare in Laguna province is set to get a big boost after President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. signed two new laws that will expand the current healthcare services being provided in the province.

Republic Act No. 12205, signed by the President on May 8, will increase the current capacity of the Laguna Provincial Hospital - San Pedro District Hospital in Barangay San Antonio, San Pedro City, Laguna.

Under the new law, the authorized bed capacity of the San Pedro District Hospital will be increased from the current 15 beds to 50 beds.

RA 12205 will also enable the hospital to expand its existing professional healthcare services, as well as its doctors, nurses and support personnel.

The new law was principally authored by San Pedro City Representative Ann Matibag, with Calamba City Representative Cha Hernandez and outgoing Representative Ruth Hernandez as co-authors.

The San Pedro District Hospital is under the direct control and supervision of the provincial government of Laguna under the Laguna Provincial Hospital system.

On the other hand, Republic Act No. 12208 paves the way for the establishment of the Calamba City General Hospital.

The new hospital will be under the direct control and supervision of the local government of Calamba City.

Calamba City Representative Cha Hernandez, one of the principal authors of RA 12208, pledged that the construction of the new Calamba City General Hospital will be accomplished during her second term.
