PBA and Virtualness formalize collaboration to launch an NFT collection

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) links up with Virtualness to release exclusive digital NFT collectibles through the PBA Virtualness platform, as formally announced during a media briefing on February 5.

Virtualness is a Web3 mobile-first platform that focuses on creator monetization and with PBA’s fame in the country, aims to maximize the opportunities that the league can offer in the virtual world.

Basketball fans will be able to enjoy NFT collectibles that range from commemorative, topical, gamification to unlocking unique fan experiences.

“The PBA and its players are embraced by their fans not just in the Philippines, but throughout the world.” said Kirthiga Reddy and Saurabh Doshi, co-founders of Virtualness as reported by The Mega Maxi.
“We’ve been at the heart of Web2 ecosystem building, and the digital transformation of media, sports and entertainment over the last decade. We’re on our journey to do it again in Web3 and excited to enable the PBA to mimic various physical experiences in digital forms and in newer ways unlocked by the power of blockchain.”

According to Spin.ph, the PBA will feature a virtual reality that will revolve around purchasing, trading, and owning of digital collectibles, even as far as collecting past and present live in-game moments and merchandise from the PBA on the Virtualness platform.

"Layon ng PBA na sumabay sa takbo ng makabagong panahon. Kaya nagagalak tayo na narito ang Virtualness upang maging kaagapay natin sa pagbibigagay ng saya sa ating mga fans sa tulong ng makabagoing teknolohiya," said PBA commissioner Willie Marcial of the partnership.

The Philippines currently ranks in the top five nations across the globe interested in NFTs, and by partnering with the biggest basketball league in the country, will even spike its popularity among NFT collectors and fans alike.

Additionally, these NFTs can also grant holders exclusive virtual and in-real-life perks such as online discounts, special seat invitations, and personal meet-and-greet with PBA players themselves.
