The PBA slapped TNT head coach Chot Reyes a ₱50,000 fine after exiting the Arena late on Thursday with displeasing words towards the game officials.

TNT Tropang Giga head coach Chot Reyes was asked to pay a hefty fine following his outburst towards the game officials after the team’s 94-92 loss against the Magnolia Hotshots at the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Thursday, October 6.

The PBA Commissioner’s Office ordered Reyes to pay ₱50,000 for two separate occasions — first for approaching the technical table, then using foul language while on the way out of SMART Araneta Coliseum.

League deputy commissioner Eric Castro confirmed the news with a statement as the deputy himself had to escort Chot in high emotions on his way out of the arena after the game, which the officials have heard enough nonetheless.

“The Office of the Commissioner will fine coach Chot P50,000 for crossing the court to confront the game officials and the technical table, as well as incessantly shouting invectives/shouting profanities at game officials while exiting the Araneta Coliseum’s south gate.”

The league also included the reference for the decision by citing a memo dated October 22, 2007 stating that approaching officials before, during, or after games are prohibited.

“No member of any team may approach the Commissioner’s Row (now the Technical Group Table) or talk to the Supervisor of Officials (unless otherwise requested) before, during or after a game in full public view,” it said.

Reyes’ complaints started when the referees called a foul on Calvin Oftana with 4.3s left in the ball game while trying to take the ball from Magnolia’s Paul Lee that led to free throws.

The foul was then contested by the mentor but the call stood and new footage in different angles surfaced after the game which supported the referees’ decision.

Aside from Reyes, new TNT team manager and PBA legend Jojo Lastimosa has also been fined with ₱20,000 “for crossing the court and confronting game officials and the technical table.”
