Jamie Malonzo and Von Pessumal to team up at Ginebra after the PBA has approved the three-way deal between Ginebra, NorthPort and San Miguel Beermen

The Philippine Basketball Association has approved two separate deals that will send athletic Fil-Am forward Jamie Malonzo of NorthPort Batang Pier to the Barangay Ginebra on Tuesday, September 20.

A three-team trade between the Kings, the NorthPort Batang Pier and the San Miguel Beermen includes shipping Arvin Tolentino, Prince Caperal, and Ginebra's 2022 first round draft pick to North Port in exchange for Malonzo.

Meanwhile, the Beermen will acquire the rights to NorthPort’s 2024 and 2025 second round draft picks for sharp shooter Von Pessumal.

The Batang Pier will then send Pessumal to Ginebra for veteran gunner Jeff Chan and Kent Salado.

Four Gin Kings will then end up playing for NorthPort joining the core of Robert Bolick and Arwind Santos while Ginebra will utilize the services of Pessumal and Malonzo to join the crew of the reigning MVP Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, Christian Standhardinger, Stanley Pringle and LA Tenorio.

Malonzo, the newly addition to the Gilas Pilipinas squad and saw action in the August window of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers, coming off a breakout 2022 Philippine Cup conference for NorthPort averaging 17.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.4 blocks.

This trade came after another blockbuster exchange happened between TNT, NLEX, and Blackwater that led to Calvin Oftana landing in TNT to team up with superstar guard Mikey Williams.

PBA fans could not help but disapprove of this and bring up the so-called “harvest” allegations as strong teams get to be stronger with the lopsided trades from richer corporations.

The 2022 Commissioner’s Cup will start on Wednesday, September 21, at the Mall of Asia Arena as the teams will get to parade their new set of imports and local recruits.
