A 23-year-old passenger was arrested at the Terminal 4 for illegally bringing a gun.

Police authorities nabbed a Davao-bound passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4 after his luggage yielded a firearm on Wednesday.

Office for Transportation Security (OTS) identified the suspect as Mamayla Tatang, 23, who was catching his AirAsia flight Z2-611 and was about to enter the Final Security Screening Checkpoint of the Terminal 4 when intercepted.

An OTS X-ray screening traced a pistol of an unknown caliber inside the passenger's luggage which led to his arrest by PNP-Aviation Security Group.

After he failed to produce any documents such as gun license and permit to carry, he was later brought to police custody for further questioning.

OTS said the firearm is undergoing verification and would be subjected to ballistic examination by the PNP.

OTS Administrator Undersecretary Ma. O Aplasca lauded the screeners particularly Gerlyn Siwa for being alert.

"I wish to congratulate our screeners for their focus and vigilance. Let's maintain this level of alertness and readiness in ensuring the security of our constituents. But we should also find the right balance of facilitating convenience for the travellers and implementing security measures," Aplasca said.

Aplasca also reminded passengers to properly observe the security procedures and protocols.
