A female passenger was nabbed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Thursday night after more than three kilos of cocaine was found in her luggage.
The Bureau of Customs (BoC) identified the suspect as Zenaida Losloso, 49, of Lucena City, who arrived in Manila aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET644 from Addis Ababa.
Authorities said they tried to carry the luggage, but it seemed too heavy, prompted them to put it in the x-ray machine.
It also underwent rigorous screening, including K9 inspection, and a thorough physical examination for the passenger, according to officials of the Port of NAIA.
Customs official said the drugs, weighing 3,454 grams, were hidden under the luggage along with the suspect's clothes. This loot has an estimated value of P18,306,200, as confirmed by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
Violations of Republic Act 9165, known as the Comprehensive Drug Act, and RA 10863, also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act will be filed against the passenger.
The BoC-NAIA said it remains committed in protecting the national borders and continues to enhance coordination efforts with partner agencies in line with Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio's directives and priority programs.
