Because of Wednesday's magnitude 7 quake in Abra and many parts of Ilocos, CAR and Northern Luzon provinces, more bills for the barangay healthcare workers and health schools and colleges are being proposed to better position the country to respond to such disasters.

Another offshoot of Wednesday's magnitude 7 quake in Abra and wide areas of CAR and the Ilocos region, the BHW Partylist pushed for the early passage of the proposed Medical Reserve Corps, Philippine Center for Disease Prevention and Control, and fully-functioning State Universities and Colleges Mental Health Services.

Rep. Angelica Natasha Co in a statement said BHWs are again at the frontlines, this time the 7 quake in Abra.

We are checking how many and the status of our BHWs and their neighbors who were directly affected.

Nakahanda na ang aming mga kaukulang bills dito sa Kamara para mapabilis sa mga komite at plenaryo ang proseso ng pagsasabatas sa mga ito.

It has now become most urgent for BHW Party-list to give its strongest push for swift passage of priority bills. In times of disasters and more so before disasters strike, we need the proposed Medical Reserve Corps, Philippine Center for Disease Prevention and Control, and fully-functioning State Universities and Colleges Mental Health Services.

We will push for the Magna Carta of BHWs, better health services delivery, more school clinics, more accountability from PhilHealth, service standards for hospitals and barangay health centers, vaccine security, and more mandatory vaccines for children and mothers.

BHW Party-list will be in close coordination with the Department of Health, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and Department of Social Welfare and Development for more and better training and career development of all sectors in Barangay Health and Wellness. We shall be working with health professionals as well as barangay volunteers to mend the gap.

In the 19th Congress, we will further strengthen our working relationships with the BHW Federations and the BHWs serving at the barangays and in remote communities.

We will also deepen our working relations with other sectors of barangay health and wellness, including the caregivers, physical therapists, massage specialists, hair stylists, pedicurists, manicurists, barbers, fitness trainers, and gym entrepreneurs–because all of them have their roles in the wellness and health aspects of their neighbors and clientele.
