Pasig Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski has issued a new warning about scammers in cyberspace.
Lately, the vice mayor received complaints from some of his constituents that there were online users who are pretending to be him or a staff member of his office.
Jaworski said those behind the scheme use his name to get people’s personal information, such as the one-time passwords to their e-wallet and social media accounts.
He also gave tips on how to avoid falling prey to this modus.
He said people should not be quick to trust messages coming from online accounts they do not know, especially if they ask for personal information.
The Pasig official said Internet users should also verify if the account they are engaging with is an official Facebook page.
“Hindi po dapat ito personal account kundi isang page at isa sa paraan para makita ang pagkakaiba ay ang official Facebook page lamang natin ang may LIVE videos ng ating mga pagbisita sa Oplan Kaayusan,” he said.
He further said they should not give out their personal details online, and stressed that his office would never ask for these through social media. All official transactions such as requests for financial assistance are handled personally in his office, the vice mayor said.
