The Mactan Cebu International Airport will operate only from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily from October 25 to November 8. But Philippine Air Lines said scheduled flights to Cebu are cancelled despite the partial operations of the airport.

The operation in Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) has resumed but limited to "sunrise to sunset" operations following Korean Air's Airbus A330 overshooting incident on Sunday night, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Tuesday.

CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said despite MCIA limited operations it can handle all types of aircraft on both domestic and international flights.

CAAP Notice-to-Airmen (NOTAM) that was released Monday night distributing information about Mactan-Cebu Runway 04/22 which will be closed from 5 p.m. to 4:59 a.m. effective October 25, 2022 until November 8, 2022.

MCIA ground personnel are still working to get the heavily- damaged Airbus from the muddy portion of runway 22.

Monday's incident has forced MCIA to shut down due to the stalled aircraft where dozens of flights cancelled.

Reports said that the front aircraft belly was "sheared off and its nose was heavily damaged."

Tuesday's flight advisory of flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) said that "during the permitted daylight hours from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., we are operating our flights between Cebu and Manila, and between Cebu and other domestic stations."

During the closure period from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m., PAL's 16 scheduled flights to Cebu are cancelled despite the partial operations of the airport.

Apolonio said the CAAP main headquarters is still waiting the official report regarding the incident from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Inquiry Board (AAIIB) investigators.

The aviation regulator is continuously working closely with the MCIA to complete the extraction of the aircraft from the end of MCIA runway.
