Filipino films are indeed world-class.

This is once more proven when a native film on a man playing a mascot was chosen with a distinct honor in Portugal.

Wide Film Productions' "Papa Mascot" was given the Premio de Critica or Critics Award by the 44th Fantasporto International Film Festival.

Director Louie Ignacio and creative producer Ferdy Lapuz personally received the award from the 2024 Fantasporto.

"Thank you Fantasporto International Film Festival. Thank you to the jury, to the critics for and loving my film. Congratulations to my 'Papa Macot' team, to Wide Films Productions. Mabuhay po ang Pilipinas (Long Live the Philippines)," said, more ir less, Louie in his acceptance speech.

"Papa Mascot," which stars Ken Chan, is about a father who was separated by authorities from his dying daughter because of his involvement in a kidnap-for-ransom exploit against an authority who massacred his family in an extra-judicial killing.
