For almost three years, the after-effect of Covid-19 still looms in Eastern Visayas. Again, the public is in panic as the Department of Health confirms the first suspected case of monkeypox (Mpox) in the region.
Reports reached the health department that a 24-year-old from Catarman, Northern Samar is the first recorded possible case of the Mpox in the region.
Mpox is pervasive and highly contagious.
The still-unnamed patient allegedly experienced two weeks of fever, body weakness, and vesicular rashes.
What is more alarming was his lack of travel history suggests the possibility of acquiring the virus within the area.
He was immediately isolated and is currently undergoing further confirmatory testing in Northern Samar Provincial Hospital.
Symptoms
Monkeypox is a viral infectious disease.
Mpox can cause a painful rash, enlarged lymph nodes, and fever. Most people fully recover, but some get very sick.
The Mpox victim also suffers from sore throat, as one of the first symptoms. Rashes usually first appear on the face and spreads all over the body, especially in the extremities. Its lesion stages that lasts from two to four weeks are painful acne-like, solid and inflamed bumps on the skin that develops into pus-filled tips before it dries up.
Person-to-person transmission of Mpox can occur through direct contact with infectious skin or other lesions such as in the mouth or on genitals.
