The short film "Sa Paglupad Ka Banog," produced by Elvert Bañares and written by Dr. Jesus Insilada, has earned the prestigious title of Best Short Film at the 46th Gawad Urian Awards. This triumph marks a significant achievement for the filmmakers and stands as a testament to the power of indigenous narratives and the unique collaboration between traditional wisdom and modern filmmaking.

This cinematic success lies in the groundbreaking choice to cast Panay Bukidnon actors as the main characters, with Cultural Master Romulo Caballero and his grandson Jashem Rosh Caballero Padernal taking center stage. This decision, made in consultation with the Panay Council of Elders and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples in Region 6, symbolizes a harmonious blend of artistic expression and cultural preservation.

Elvert Bañares, the Ilonggo producer and director behind this remarkable piece, expressed his gratitude and dedication in a Facebook post: "We offer this victory to our Panay Bukidnon communities and all Ilonggos around the world. Padayon kita!" His words echo the collaborative spirit that fueled the creation of "Sa Paglupad Ka Banog" and emphasize the importance of acknowledging and celebrating diverse voices in filmmaking.

The film's success extends beyond the Gawad Urian Awards, as it has also clinched top honors at the 13th Kota Kinabalu International Film Festival in Malaysia and received a gold award at FACINE in the United States for Cinematography, Aural Design, and Visual Design categories. Additionally, it earned a spot among the 20 Best Films of 2022 by Asian Movie Pulse, highlighting its international acclaim.

What makes this achievement even more commendable is the film's journey to recognition, transcending borders and resonating with audiences across cultures. By winning the hearts of audiences in Malaysia, the United States, and beyond, "Sa Paglupad Ka Banog" not only elevates the narrative of the Panay Bukidnon but also fosters a greater appreciation for the richness of Philippine indigenous cultures on a global scale.

The collaborative efforts of E Unlimited, Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc., the Department of Tourism in Region 6, and the Negros Cultural Foundation, in association with the Municipalities of Calinog and Lambunao, have played a pivotal role in bringing this cultural gem to light. Their support has led to national recognition and showcased the potential for collaboration between the film industry and cultural preservation initiatives.

As "Sa Paglupad Ka Banog" continues to garner accolades and acclaim, it not only stands as a testament to the resilience of indigenous storytelling but also serves as an inspiration for future filmmakers to embrace the richness of diverse cultures in their narratives.
