Is Pambujan, Northern Samar filmmaker Noriel Jarito the modern Don Quijote de la Mancha who is very idealist and sees the world as a paradise he can sway the skeptics to believe in him?

It is because Noriel who resides in Pambujan but occasionally leaves the place to fulfill his duties in film work, has just been converted into Buddhism and its ideals he introduces and practices not only in his work but also at home.

“I am now a vegetarian,” proudly announced Jarito who is famous for his 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival New Wave entry “Rindido (Deranged)” as well as his recent movies “Huramanetado (Oath to Die) and (Kill the President)” etc. which are streaming in Amazon.

“I also practice mindfulness, good moral life, acts of kindness and compassion and a lot more virtues and values are embedded in me to live a meaningful life,” said Noriel who is busy conceptualizing film projects and cultural work in the liberation of men from material possessions.

To accentuate more of his Buddhist beliefs, Jarito filed his Certificate of Candidacy and is running as a council member of the Sangguniang Pambayan ng Pambujan.

Does he think he will win with his platform based on Buddhism like embracing good and successful life bereft of “ayuda,” “bribery,” “sinful acts” and other world knowing the deprived situations of the voters who are inured of the systemic “vote-buying” spree and other immoral acts just to survive?

“Hope springs eternal,” said Noriel who is the organizer of the annual Pambujan Film Festival.

Noriel’s Buddhist name is Nimai Chandra Das.

Meanwhile, when he was initiated into Buddhism, Jarito’s master was Jananandra Goswami.
