For the reopening of more routes from Cebu to Bicol and Mindanao regions, the Philippine Airlines (PAL) will utilize the 86-seater De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400 Next Generation aircraft.

The resumption of more domestic routes will start on December 15, 2023, for daily flights between Cebu and General Santos City, as well as daily flights between Cebu and Legazpi's Bicol International Airport in Daraga, Albay.

PAL added that from December 16, 2023, it will resume the regular thrice weekly flights between Cebu and Ozamiz City.

"We look forward to flying more passengers and creating more healthy connections through the resumption of our Cebu-General Santos, Cebu-Legazpi and Cebu-Ozamiz routes, in time for the peak holiday season.

"Our new routes will also allow for residents of GenSan, Legazpi and Ozamiz to connect more conveniently via Cebu to Iloilo, Bacolod, Tacloban, Davao, Busuanga and other domestic destinations, as well as to Bangkok, Tokyo Narita and Seoul Incheon," said PAL President & Chief Operating Officer Stanley K. Ng.

The Q400 aircraft is a series of turboprop-powered regional airliners as well as the most productive turboprop on the market, and is capable of flying at jet like speeds at 400 mph with turboprop efficiency.

Schedules for the new routes are: December 15 - Cebu-General Santos, PR2357 (daily departing at 2:30 p.m., arriving a 3:50 p.m.); General Santos-Cebu, PR2358 (daily departing at 4:20 p.m., arriving at 5:40 p.m.); Cebu-Legazpi-Cebu, PR2927 (daily departing at 6:00 p.m., arriving at 7:10 p.m.); PR2928 (daily departing at 7:30 p.m., arriving at 8:40 p.m.);

December 16 - Cebu-Ozamiz, PR2893 (every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday departing at 7:35 a.m., arriving at 8:40 a.m.); Ozamiz-Cebu, PR2894 (every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday departing at 9:00 a.m., arriving at 10:00 a.m.).

According to the airline it will also launch new Cebu-Laoag route on December 15.

This is part of the flag carrier's continuous efforts to create new connectivity between Northern Luzon and the central and southern Philippines. It will operate twice weekly flights between Cebu and Laoag.

PR 2251 (Cebu-Laoag) – every Tuesday and Friday departing at 07:35 AM, arriving at 10:05 AM, and PR 2252 (Laoag-Cebu) – every Tuesday and Friday departing at 10:25 AM, arriving at 12:35 AM.

“We welcome the holiday season with a historic air link between Cebu and Laoag City. This brand-new service will help us open up a new market for tourist and business travelers by connecting the Ilocos Region via nonstop flights to Cebu, and beyond to other cities in the Visayas and Mindanao.” said Captain Stanley K. Ng, PAL President & Chief Operating Officer.

“You can expect more convenient connections that boost tourism and help spur economic development in different areas of the Philippines, as we progressively expand our domestic network. We expect to mount more flights in and out of our Mactan-Cebu hub in the coming months," Ng added.

PAL previously operated two special flights between Cebu and Laoag in May 2023 in support of the Himala Sa Buhangin Festival in Laoag.

PAL currently operates 4x weekly Cebu-Baguio and Baguio-Cebu flights, another pioneer north-south link inaugurated back in December 2022.

The Cebu-Laoag route will be flown with PAL’s quiet and comfortable De Havilland Dash 8-400 Next Generation aircraft offering 86 seats, including six comfort class seats.
