Pakil town cannot be outdone in its pursuits of intensified literacy programs and English proficiency projects as other Laguna towns like cities Binan and Sto. Tomas which have been subscribing to the learning curves in the four walls of the academia.

Aside from the rigorous school curriculum like K-12 being implemented by the provincial division's Department of Education (DepEd) that enhances higher literacy rates in all levels, its Local Government Unit (LGU) has been engaging in many sources and collaborations, public or private, to advance its educational system.

Led by Mayor Vincent Soriano, LGU Pakil attended the partnership ceremony between his municipal leadership and the Philippine Graphic and Philippine Graphic Reader combined to fortify literacy and English proficiency projects among its students in all levels.

This time around, though, Mayor Soriano came to Samsung Theater at SM Aura in Taguig City with some Senior high students, faculty members and staff from various schools in Pakil to witness the collaboration between the two entities.

The occasion coincided with the awarding rites of the Nick Joaquin Literary Awards (NJLA), a major contest under the auspices of the Philippine Graphic and Philippine Graphic Reader.

It was indeed an integration of varied institutions--political governments such as the Sangguniang Bayan with the barangays, print media and literature.

Students from Pakil will be reoriented of the significance of Nick Joaquin in the studies not only of Philippine lit and the English language but the multi-disciplinary contents in his writings.

Present during the event were Senior students from schools like the Kabulusan Integrated National High School, both main and extension.

They were accompanied by Ms. Rose Magsalansan, Head of Soriano's Focal National Literacy Award.

According to Marra PL. Lanot, Editor of Philippine Graphic Reader, the pact between Graphic and LGU Pakil will be a dynamic force to reckon with in education within the barangay level.

Meanwhile, some of the winners in the 2024 NJLA and Graphic Salute Awards are Yvette Tan, Rosario Garcellano, Ma. Ceres Doyo, Pablo Tariman, Barbara Mae Dacanay, Nestor Cuartero, among others.
