As a challenging year draws to a close, the local government of San Pedro, Laguna is sending a clear message to all San Pedrenses: the spirit of love, sharing and unity should prevail this Christmas season.

With the theme “Ang Pagmamahal ang Regalo ng Pasko,” the city government under Mayor Art Mercado kicked off the LGU’s Christmas celebration with the official lighting of the giant Christmas tree and decorations at the San Pedro City Plaza last December 2.

The event heralds the start of a month-long celebration of "Paskong San Pedrense," which will also highlight, as in past years, performances by various schools and organizations to uplift the Christmas spirit of every resident of San Pedro City.

Sharing kindness

City officials led by Mayor Mercado also took the opportunity to remind San Pedrenses, in light of the challenges faced by the city during the past eleven months, that the true essence of “Paskong San Pedrense” is sharing the gift of kindness to all.

“Our celebration reminds us that the greatest gift we can give and receive this season is love. It is a call for us to share kindness with one another, and let our hearts shine as brightly as the lights we’ve seen here,” Jhe-Rico Sam Colina, head of the San Pedro City Tourism, Arts and Culture Office (CTCAO), said in his message.

For his own part, Mercado expressed his hopes that the city’s Christmas celebrations will be a reminder to all San Pedrenses of the greatest expression of God’s love to all mankind.

Mercado also expressed his gratitude to the members of the Sangguniang Panglungsod and the employees who have rallied together to achieve the goals of the Mercado administration of becoming “Una sa Laguna.”
