The new bridge in Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac will benefit residents of the Kapit-Bisig agrarian reform community (ARC) where most of the farmers live.
THE completion of the construction of the San Sotero Bridge in Sta Ignacia, Tarlac worth P7.6 million has provided easy access to bring farmers product to market.
The bridge was formally turned over to the local government of Sta. Ignacia by Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones Monday (September 27).
“Despite the pandemic, farmers continue to plant on their farms. That is why the DAR continues to build the infrastructures they need. The construction of this bridge is a big help in bringing their products to the town markets,” Castriciones said.
"It will be easier to trade their products and will also bring additional income for the farmers here," the secretary added.
According to DAR-Central Luzon Regional Director Celestina Tam, the new bridge, located in Barangay San Sotero, will benefit residents of the Kapit-Bisig agrarian reform community (ARC) where most of the farmers live.
"This bridge is our response to the farmers’ request to provide them with a strong bridge and an easier way to get to the nearest market. The neighboring farmer’s communities will also benefit from this bridge," Tam said.
"We are very happy about this project. We can now deliver the goods without fear of being swept away by the flood especially during the rainy season,” said Leonora Lamonera, one of the farmers who benefitted from the construction of the bridge.
DAR said the San Sotero Bridge was implemented by the DAR under the Tulay ng Pangulo Para sa Kaunlarang Pang-Agraryo and was constructed in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
