BoC-NAIA has intensified border protection efforts together with PDEA and partner agencies to stop proliferation of illegal drugs in the country.

GOVERNMENT operatives seized P7.53-million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu at a warehouse in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Bureau of Customs (BoC) said Wednesday (September 29).

The drugs, weighing 1.1 kilograms, were found in two air parcels inside a FedEx warehouse at the airport.

The contraband was subjected to 100 percent examination after it undergoes x-ray scanning, according to the bureau.

The drugs were packed in four plastic bags concealed in T-shirts, and were later confirmed and verified by the bureau as methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu through field test conducted by the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force and Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The government operatives also found slippers and food chips inside the parcels, which allegedly came from Malaysia.

Officials at the Port of NAIA said the drugs are now under the custody of PDEA for further investigation and case profiling.
