Authorities seized more than P67 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) complex on Tuesday, December 5, the Bureau of Customs (BoC) said.

Initial reports said the illegal cargo was discovered by Customs personnel after it passed through the x-ray scanning, and was physically examined by officers from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

BoC officials claimed that the methamphetamine, also known as shabu, was discreetly concealed within 10 aluminum pulleys, valued at P67,306,400.00.

The package, which came from the African country of Mozambique and declared as carrying spare parts, was sent to Gayzel Marie Sabile, a 40-year-old beautician and resident of San Andres Ext, Sta. Ana, Manila.

Sabile was arrested by authorities upon claiming the package, the report added.

The BoC staff were commended by Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio and Port of NAIA District Collector Yasmin Mapa for their successful apprehension of narcotics being illegally brought into the country.

The meth was later turned over to the NAIA-PDEA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group for further investigation and proper disposition, the BoC said.
