In the face of nature's wrath, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI has emerged, extending a compassionate hand to those affected by flash floods in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Iloilo. As heavy rains and thunderstorms, driven by a shearline, unleashed havoc on these regions, the DSWD swiftly responded, providing P3.8 million worth of Family Food Packs (FFPs) to alleviate the suffering of the affected families.
The recent calamity left a trail of destruction in its wake, affecting the municipalities of Altavas and Balete in Aklan; Culasi in Antique; Cuartero, Dao, Dumalag, Jamindan, Maayon, Mambusao, Panay, Panit-an, Pontevedra, Sigma, and Tapaz in Capiz; and San Dionisio in Iloilo. In total, 37,965 families grappled with the flash floods' aftermath.
In a commendable display of efficiency and empathy, the DSWD Western Visayas promptly dispatched 6,375 Family Food Packs to provide immediate relief to those in need. This support came as a crucial supplement to the initial response by Local Government Units (LGUs), showcasing the collaboration between government agencies to address the urgent needs of affected communities.
Beyond the distribution of essential provisions, the DSWD Field Office VI has actively provided technical assistance to LGUs. This involves guidance on disaster reporting and the management of evacuation centers, reflecting a holistic approach towards disaster response. By sharing expertise and knowledge, the DSWD is a source of aid and a partner in building community resilience.
It's heartening to note that amidst the challenges, some internally displaced families have already been able to return to their homes as the water subsided. This gradual return to normalcy is a testament to the resilience and strength embedded within these communities. However, the DSWD's commitment remains unwavering as they support those grappling with the aftermath.
In times of crisis, the true character of a nation is revealed through the collective efforts of its people and institutions. The DSWD Western Visayas has exemplified this spirit, standing shoulder to shoulder with the affected communities, offering relief and a glimmer of hope amid adversity. As the nation collectively strives to rebuild, it is heartening to know that compassionate agencies like DSWD are at the forefront, dedicated to the well-being and recovery of every Filipino affected by calamity.
