The country's aviation regulator has revealed a significant investment of P10.6 billion for civil works and P1.8 billion for upgrades in equipment and systems by 2025.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said this Thursday, January 9, that such an investment is intended to modernize aviation infrastructure and strengthen the country's global competitiveness in the aviation sector.
During the pilot episode of the Department of Transportation's "Sakay na Program" on Radyo Pilipinas hosted by Executive Assistant to the Secretary Jonathan Gesmundo, CAAP Director General Manuel Antonio Tamayo and CAAP Deputy Director General for Administration Danjun Lucas underscored the government's commitment to enhancing airport facilities, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring a safer and more seamless travel experience for passengers.
Key priorities for 2025 include improving the night-ratings of Cauayan, Dipolog, and Pagadian airports in order to enable safe and effective night-time operations to meet the growing demands of air traffic.
Additionally, Bukidnon Airport is scheduled to start accommodating general aviation flights this year, establishing an important hub for local travel and commerce in the area.
"Ang thrust natin (Our thrust) is to really make the Philippine sky safe. Ayaw nating magkaroon ng mga (We don't want) accidents and incidents (to happen), as much as possible," said Tamayo, emphasizing CAAP's dedication to aviation safety.
These CAAP's modernization initiatives are expected to boost tourism and trade, optimize airport operations, and enhance the overall passenger experience.
The CAAP's ultimate goal is to promote economic growth by improving connectivity across the archipelago.
