Popular singer of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s Carmen Patena died Wednesday after suffering from a lingering illness.
This was announced by Carmen's best friend and designer Albert Figueras and her nephew Tommy Thursday morning, August 1.
According to Albert who did Patena's wardrobe during her "Golden Divas" concert with fellow singers Pilita Corrales and Carmen Soriano in the late 2000s, he was supposed to pay her a visit Wednesday but purposely recalled it as per an advisory of Tommy.
"Ang sabi ni Tommy, kritikal na ang lagay ni Tita Carmen kaya hindi na kami tumuloy ni (He said she was already in critical condition so I decided against visiting her with my fellow designer) Erick Valena," informed Figueras who has known Carmen for almost three decades.
Known as "Shirley Bassey of the Philippines," Patena was a well-sought chanteuse during her heyday with fellow singers Pilita, Carmen, and Merci Molina, among others.
Patena's remains lie in her native town of Silang, Cavite.
Details of Carmen's funeral services are yet to be announced by her family.
