On her 50th birthday this July 15, Biñan City, Laguna Representative Len Alonte is “paying it forward” to her constituents through several programs championing health and education in her district.

Last Monday, July 1, Alonte together with Mayor Arman Dimaguila and City Councilor Dr. Elvis Bedia led the signing of a Memorandum Of Agreement (MOA) with Unihealth Southwoods Hospital and Medical Center.

Under the MOA, Alonte’s “Alagang Len” health program and the Biñan City LGU will now include cataract surgeries for Unihealth patients under their medical assistance coverage.

“Ang programa ng Alagang Len ay hindi lamang tungkol sa pagpapagamot kundi sa pagbibigay pag-asa at pagkakataon para sa mas maayos na kalusugan,” the solon said.

“Sa tulong ng mga katuwang nating institusyon, nagiging posible na mabawasan ang bigat ng gastusing medikal ng mga ating mga kababayan,” she added.

Alonte also led the turnover of an ambulance to the Ospital ng Biñan and the distribution of “Alagang Len Cards” in Barangay Casile which offer P5,000 worth of outpatient medical expenses every year.

By July, Alagang Len will also cover medical bills of all patients discharged from Ospital ng Biñan.

Education programs

On the same day, Alonte’s office had a feeding program, libreng gupit, and distribution of Cong. Len Alonte Trimex Colleges (CLATACO) permit for scholars at the San Isidro Covered Court

Starting July 8, College students can apply for the “Tulong Dunong Ni LEN @ 50”, an P8,000 grant per semester for 2 years for students of Saint Michael’s College of Laguna (SMCL).

Applicants may visit at the Biñan Congressional District Office or at SMCL Admissions Office.

Gift-giving

Meanwhile, as part of celebrations for her “golden anniversary,” Alonte decided to “pay it forward” through medical missions and other events benefitting Biñanenses.

These include the free medical and dental missions conducted last July 10 and 14 (with the partnership of the Ang Pamilya Partylist) and the “Regalong Ayuda Alay kay Lolo at Lola” for the city’s senior citizens held last July 10.

Alonte expressed her gratitude to the constituents who stood by her through her decades-long career in public service – from leading Biñan City’s transformation from a sleepy market town to becoming one of Laguna’s economic powerhouses, to becoming the city’s voice in Congress since 2016.

"Nadama ko po yung pagmamahal niyo po sa akin simula ko nung ako'y dumaban sa pulitika noong 1998. Kayo po ang aming kasama. At iyon po ang hindi ko malilimutan," Alonte said in her speech during the “Regalong Ayuda Alay kay Lolo at Lola” event.
