OLONGAPO CITY — The heat index in this city reached the dangerous levels for two consecutive days on Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.
According to the state weather office, the heat index here peaked at 45 degrees Celsius on Thursday and Friday. It was the hottest heat index experienced by residents in the city this year.
The heat index is considered dangerous when it ranges from 42°C to 51°C. It is the degree of discomfort felt due to the combined effects of temperature and air humidity, Pagasa said.
As this developed, local water service concessionaire Subic Water assuaged the fear of many customers about water service interruptions despite the limited sources of drinking water for residents, due to the ongoing El Nino phenomenon.
