After six seasons and six championships, the NU Lady Bulldogs continue their win streak to a 100 games after winning against the UP Lady Maroons in UAAP S85.
Six-time UAAP women’s basketball champions, the NU Lady Bulldogs extended their historic win streak to 100 straight games after beating the UP Lady Maroons in UAAP Season 85 women’s basketball tournament Wednesday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
The Lady Bulldogs reached the century mark against UP, 79-44, setting the pace in the first quarter with a 31-6 barrage led by Mikka Cacho with 15 points and five rebounds.
Marylene Solis also helped notch the win by producing nine points and three rebounds in the contest as well as Princess Fabruada’s eight points and eight rebounds, with 14 of the 16 Lady Bulldogs scoring at least two points.
It has been 3,104 days since the Lady Bulldogs tasted their last defeat in the UAAP which occurred during Season 76 on October 5, 2013 in a do-or-die series finale against the De La Salle Lady Archers.
NU never looked back after that season as starting July 12, 2014 in the UAAP Season 77 eliminations, the ladies have not dropped a single game and won six straight championships to dominate the whole league.
For six straight seasons, the Lady Bulldogs have managed to defeat Far Eastern University in 16 games; Ateneo, University of the East, and UST in 15 games; La Salle in 14 games; Adamson 12 times; and, lastly, UP for the 12th time after Wednesday’s game.
“The goal today was to bounce back from a very parang pangit na defensive game against UST last time out. So, today the emphasis was defense on how well we could defend today. I thought we did better today than the UST game and we want to reestablish our identity today,” said NU head coach Aris Dimaunahan.
“This game, this 100th win is an honor doon sa mga unang naglaro sa amin. Most especially, to the ones who started this, to the architect of this streak which is my kumpare coach Pat Aquino. I know you will all agree with me that he’s the best women’s basketball coach in the country [and] this win is for him.”
