Government troopers in Quezon have scored yet another victory in its campaign against Communist insurgency, following the recovery of a suspected weapons cache belonging to the New People's Army (NPA) in Lucban, Quezon.

Private First Class Bismarck Floyd Mandaing, a member of the 404th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion, which is part of the 4th Regional Community Defense Group, discovered the cache of hand grenades inside a public cemetery in this town.

Mandaing was visiting a relative's grave at the Palola Public Cemetery when he received information that a fallen tree on the property was believed to contain a suspected explosive device.

He promptly contacted the police and bomb disposal teams to ensure the safety of the area.

Authorities unearthed a total of 120 hand grenades hidden under the tree.

The weapons were quickly moved to a safe place, and the area around the cemetery was cleared to protect visitors.

A team from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Battalion also visited the site to verify the safety of the grenades that had been discovered and to take the necessary action with them.

The incident demonstrated the critical importance of reservists, civilians, and military personnel maintaining a state of alertness and collaboration to ensure the safety of the public, particularly in community areas where individuals frequently convene.
