After all these years, anything about Nora Aunor, big or compelling news or even trivial, is considered a major story and a hot copy.

Because Nora is a phenomenal star, a great actress, the Queen of Philippine Movies.

The moment she opens her mouth, she is quotable.

Her mere presence in any place is a conversation piece, something to discuss because she resonates with many people, especially the great number of Filipinos because of her resemblance to the common masses.

Of late, Aunor is rumored to retire from showbiz especially with her health condition although she is always on her toes with medical check-ups.

“Okay naman po ako (I am OK),” she said the last time I talked to her.

“Bastat kailangan pa ako ng mga tao, bakit naman ako tatalikod sa kanila (As long as the people need me why do I have to turn my back on them?),” she quipped.

La Aunor’s last public appearance was when she filed her Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance as a nominee for People’s Champ Movement party-list at the Tent City of The Manila Hotel.

She was swarmed by her fans during her filing of her CONA.

After her certifying and accepting her nomination, naysayers were quick on spreading nasty talks about her.

There was a social media post that stated she already passed on that eventually reached her.

According to entertainment writer and film director Ronald Carballo, Ate (a term of endearment to an older woman or sister by blood or by affinity) Guy already sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the sources of the fake news.

The National Artist for Film is in the pink of health.

“Marami pa tayong gagawin (We still have so many things to do),” Nora intimated in one of our meetings at her house in Xavierville.

But then again, she still has other movie projects waiting in the wings.

She is also in the thick of things marketing and booking “Bona,” one of her classic films directed by National Artist for Film Lino Brocka.

Carlotta Films and Kani Releasing have given her the go-signal to market and show the 14k restored film in Asia.
