Noli Eala out, Dino Aldeguer in as PSC chairman according to multiple sources.
After concluding Batang Pinoy 2022-- a grassroots program of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-- and only four months in position, talks of replacing Noli Eala as chairman of the sports governing body has now surfaced.
Just last August 30, Eala took the seat from former PSC chair Butch Ramirez after being appointed by former executive secretary Vic Rodriguez and began calling the shots for sports funding with one of Eala’s first projects being the proposal of a world-class facility where national athletes can train and for the country to host big international events.
However, despite positive outcomes in his very short leadership showcase, the current PSC Chair might have been a temporary pick.
So who will be replacing Eala?
According to Inquirer, Dino Aldeguer, a former De La Salle University guard, is reportedly the favored candidate on a very short list of names to take over the position as soon as possible.
Three separate reliable sources — all choosing not to disclose their identities — have spoken on the developing story but added that the former DLSU guard’s appointment is close to being a reality as it is only awaiting for the signature of the President.
“What I know is that the post had already been offered to Dino,” the paper quoted one source.
“There are just some details being finalized.”
Additionally, another source —a national sports association (NSA) president— who has been made aware of the situation, revealed that it is inevitable that Eala will be leaving the post as he is at a disadvantage after being appointed during the term of Rodriguez who has been replaced by former Supreme Court Justice Lucas Bersamin.
However, he still commended Eala’s leadership saying that he “has been very cooperative with respect to our athletes’ needs. But I think he is a collateral damage here.”
