No more pests at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

That was the pledge of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) as it initiated efforts to get rid of rats that have been seen in airport terminals, which have caused inconvenience for both air travelers, and business organizations.

Several rats were captured by pest control services personnel at the NAIA Terminal 3 departure area through the utilization of non-toxic methods such as sticky traps and mouse pads.

According to airport insiders, the pest control team did not use poison to eradicate the rats to avoid any unpleasant odors that could disturb passengers.

The recent discovery of rats, cockroaches, and bed bugs infesting the premises of the airport has elicited widespread criticism from frustrated passengers, netizens, and influential business groups alike.

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines previously warned pest control providers to improve their services and threatened to cancel their contracts if the situation persisted.

His spokesman, Chris Bendijo, stated that the pest control personnel placed mouse traps and mouse pads in various areas of the terminals where rats were often seen.

Rats were recently spotted in the ceiling and ground floor of NAIA Terminal 3 passing through several passengers.

Passengers have also uploaded videos of bed bugs and a cockroach at terminal seats over the past week. Ines took responsibility for the pest sightings and pledged to prevent them from happening again.

The MIAA chief also announced the reactivation of the Inter-Agency Coordinating Committee to address concerns related to the daily operations at the country's main gateway, which will provide a platform for industry partners to engage with MIAA management and recommend ways to improve customer service.
