The Toll Regulatory Board said its “three-strike” policy against delinquent RFID holders will motivate motorists using toll roads to be more responsible in topping up their RFID tags.

THE days of motorists trying to pull a fast one on toll operators by deliberately using their RFID cards even with insufficient balance will soon be over.

This, after the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) on Wednesday (May 12) said it is poised to implement the “three-strike” policy against delinquent RFID users and instill discipline and responsibility among toll road users.

In an interview with OpinYon News Ngayon program hosted by Cathy Go, TRB spokesperson Julius Corpuz said the new policy aims to solve the problem of insufficient balance of RFID users causing traffic at toll gates.

“Ang nangyayari po kasi, kapag ang isang subscriber ay pumasok [sa RFID lane] nang walang load or kulang ang load, nagkakaroon po tayo ng pagbagal sa daloy ng trapiko,” Corpuz said.
“Ang naabala po rito ay ang higit na nakakarami na mga RFID subscribers na responsable naman sa paggamit at tamang paglo-load ng RFID tags,” he added.

Under the TRB’s three-strike policy which will commence on May 15, vehicles passing through RFID lanes with insufficient load in their tags will first be given a warning by deputized traffic enforcers.

Third-time violators will be slapped with a ‘Disregarding Traffic Signs’ citation ticket as well as a P1,000 fine.

Through the new policy, the TRB hopes to encourage RFID users to always top up their load balance for their convenience.

Corpuz also assured that cash lanes will remain for now for RFID users who are unsure of their balance.

“Kung hindi ka sigurado sa load ng RFID tag ninyo, maaari kayong dumaan sa cash lane,” he said.
