Heading to Pampanga? Watch out for lane closures and counterflow lanes in NLEx San Matias Bridge in Sto. Tomas city and the SCTEx Pasig-Potrero bridge in Porac.

TWO bridges in Pampanga operated by the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) Corporation will undergo repairs for a month.

Motorists are advised on “occasional lane closures”.

The NLEx San Matias bridge in Sto. Tomas and the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) Pasig-Potrero bridge in Porac will be undergoing repairs as part of an ongoing program to ensure the safety of motorists.

The company said it is set to replace two link slabs on the 80-meter San Matias bridge to improve safety as well as enhance the bridge’s support and deck surface.

A temporary Bailey bridge will be set up to allow Class 1 and 2 (light vehicles) to cross over the repair site. A counterflow lane will also be opened to accommodate Class 3 vehicles (big trucks).

The work on the San Matias bridge is expected to be completed after a month.

For the 720-meter Pasig-Potrero bridge, NLEx Corp. will be installing sheet piles and gabions to strengthen its structure affected by quarrying operations.

The support repair on the SCTEX bridge which is considered a vital link between Subic and Clark is scheduled to be completed within the second quarter of the year.

“We are doing the necessary repairs as part of our commitment to keep our assets in good condition and more importantly, provide motorists with a safe and smooth expressway experience,” said NLEX Corp. President and General Manager J. Luigi L. Bautista.

In 2021, the Meycauayan and Bigaa bridges in Bulacan had been rehabilitated whereas the Porac and Gumain bridges in Pampanga underwent security repairs.
