Philippines bet for the 2023 edition of Miss International, Nicole Borromeo touched down in Japan to vie for the 7th Miss International crown for the Philippines. Binibining Pilipinas bids farewell and wishes her good luck on the grand coronation night on October 26 at Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan.
“From a heartwarming send-off to a heartwarming welcome, I am overwhelmed by the love and support that surrounds me on this journey! Thank you for making every moment feel extraordinary! "Nicole wrote on her Instagram account.
Last May, Nicole passed the Binibining Pilipinas International crown to Angelica Lopez, who is set to compete for Miss International the following year. Nicole succeeded Binibining Pilipinas International 2021, and Hannah Arnolds finished in the top 15.
Nicole has a passion for sustainability, crafting, furniture refurbishing DIY projects, and photography. She is a model and host and is currently pursuing her degree in interior design.
The 22-year-old beauty queen is not new to pageantry. Before embracing the core purpose of Miss International, she held the titles, including Reyna ng Aliwan 2019 and Sinulog Festival Queen 2019, Miss Millennial Philippines, and 2nd Runner Up for Miss Teen Philippines.
Looking back at pageantry history, Miss International was built to create action towards world peace. More than a beauty pageant, the pageant holds its slogans, “connect understanding of Japan in the international community” and “the realization of world peace through mutual understanding”. These were all started by the famous beauty queen builder, Stella Marquez-Araneta, founder of Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc and the first ever Miss International, representing Colombia.
The Philippines held six Miss International Crowns, with Gemma Teresa Cruz crowned the first Filipina Miss International in 1964, followed by Aurora Pijuan in 1970. Other Filipina Miss Internationals are Melanie Marquez in 1979 (mother of Miss Universe Philippines 2023, Michelle Marquez Dee), Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005, Bea Rose Santiago in 2013, and Kylie Verzosa in 2016.
