With Calamba City fast becoming the new hub for regional offices of various government departments, there is now a need for better services for government employees working in these regional offices.
This is the rationale of the Government Service and Insurance Corporation (GSIS) behind its launch of a new service desk in Calamba City.
The newly-opened GSIS service desk aims to bring essential frontline services closer to more than 25,000 active members and 9,000 pensioners in Metro Laguna, minimizing travel time going to their provincial office located in Pagsanjan, Laguna and easing the process of transacting with the agency.
GSIS Executive Vice President lawyer Jason Teng said that the facility is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery and improve customer experience by expanding its presence at the local level.
Teng also emphasized that the service desk will be beneficial for pensioners who may find it difficult to travel to its provincial office in Pagsanjan, a journey that takes two to four hours from San Pedro or Biñan cities, for example.
At the new help desk, GSIS members may inquire and receive assistance on membership records, life and non-life insurance offers, loan applications and status, claims, retirement application, and pension-related concerns, among other services.
Calamba City Mayor Roseller Rizal welcomed the state-run insurance agency, noting that the opening of a new office will greatly benefit government employees in the city by making essential insurance services more accessible and responsive to their needs.
“In the city of Calamba, there are more or less 1,300 permanent positions. We also have national government agencies based in Calamba, almost all of our pensioners are here. It is really necessary to have a desk, especially in Calamba. That is why the GSIS initiative to establish a service desk is a timely step and a clear relief in our city’s ongoing efforts to make public services inclusive and efficient,” he said.
