The LTFRB approved the fare increase for public transportation, which takes effect today. However, jeepneys were told not to increase yet, if they do not have with them the new fare matrix.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the petitions for public transportation to increase fares. Commuters will have to pay additional fees starting today (October 3).

The fare hike was approved by the LTFRB due to the continuous increase in petroleum prices.

The LTFRB approved a ₱1 provisional increase in the minimum fare for the first 4 kilometers of travel in public utility jeepneys (PUJs), for traditional PUJs up to ₱12, and the modern PUJ up to ₱14, the GMA News reported.

The agency also approved the petition for an additional fare for every succeeding kilometer of traditional PUJs up to ₱0.30 – ₱1.80 while for modern PUJs by ₱0.40 – ₱2.20, respectively.

NO FAKE HIKE YET WITHOUT NEW MATRIX-- Commuters pay their fare before boarding today a jeepney at a PUJ terminal along Katipunan Ave, Quezon City. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) asked commuters not to pay extra unless there is a new fare matrix displayed inside the vehicles. Today is the start of the fare hike where traditional jeepneys can charge a new minimum fare of P12 for the first four kilometers and P1.80 for succeeding kilometer. But modern jeepneys will have a new minimum fare of P14 for first four kilometers and P2.20 for every succeeding kilometer. Danny Querubin

In line with this, the public utility buses (PUBs) minimum fare will increase for every succeeding 5 kilometers by ₱2, ₱13 for regular buses, and ₱15 for airconditioned buses.

Provincial bus minimum fares will also increase by ₱2, with succeeding kilometer fare hikes ranging from P1.90 to P2.90 depending on the kind of bus.

The flagdown rate of taxis will be increased to ₱45, and ₱40 in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Fares of transport network vehicle services (TNVS) will also increase to ₱35 for hatchback-type vehicles; ₱45 for sedan-type vehicles while ₱55 for Asian utility vehicles (AUVs) and sports utility vehicles (SUVs).

LTFRB Chairperson Cheloy Garafil reminded the commuters to ensure that all public transportation vehicles today should have a fare matrix so passengers are guided with the new fares.

“Gusto nating ipaalala sa ating mga pasahero na siguraduhin po na ang lahat ng sinasakyan natin bukas ay mayroong fare matrix,” Garafil said adding “‘Yun po ang mag-ga-guide sa kanila kung magkano talaga ‘yung kanilang babayaran, kasi kung wala po ito, doon pa rin tayo sa dati nating pamasahe.”
RETURNING OLD FARE MATRIX-- Since the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board ruled that new fare hike-- which is supposed to take effect today-- can only be imposed once the traditional and modern jeepneys have new fare matrix to be displayed, this driver returns his old fare matrix for the guidance of commuters.
