More employment and economic opportunities for Lagunenses.
This is the promise of a new economic zone that will rise in two barangays in Calamba City, as approved by Malacañang Palace.
Proclamation No. 1113 signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto last December 16, creates a new Special Economic Zone, to be known as Filinvest Innovation Park Ciudad de Calamba.
The new economic zone comprises an aggregate area of over 257,009 square meters covering the barangays of Bubuyan and Punta.
In a statement, Recto said the new ecozone was designed to tap each area’s competitive advantage, from digital services and innovation to agro-industrial production, while easing pressure on Metro Manila–centric growth.
“These significant areas continue to attract investors because of their strategic location, skilled workforce, good infrastructure, and reliable utilities,” the executive secretary said in a statement.
Aside from Calamba City, two economic zones had been created by the government this December: the Information Technology hub in Aseana City, Parañaque and an agro-industrial estate in Medina, Misamis Oriental.
Malacañang said the three ecozones are projected to draw P3.03 billion in investments and generate up to 7,200 jobs, reinforcing the administration’s strategy of pairing investment incentives with employment creation.
The creation of the new economic zone in Calamba City is also expected to further cement the city's reputation as one of the fastest-growing industrial and manufacturing hubs in Laguna province.
