As was unveiled during the "Araw ng Biñan" festivities last February, the new Biñan City Hospital (BCH; formerly, and still popularly, called Ospital ng Biñan) promises to deliver more efficient medical services for all Biñanenses.

Among the new facilities of the BCH that are now catering to the needs of its patients is the new Outpatient Department (OPD) that was opened last April 3.

The new OPD, officials told OpinYon Laguna, not only provides more advanced medical services but is also larger and more comfortable for patients.

“Dalawa na po ang waiting areas natin: isa sa loob po ng OPD facility, isa po sa labas. Sa ganitong paraan, hindi na po tayo masyadong congested, at natitiyak rin po natin na hindi na po masyadong magtatagal sa init ang ating mga pasyenteng naghihintay,” officials explained in an interview with OpinYon Laguna.

Included among the OPD divisions that have been transferred to the new OPD are pediatrics, internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, and orthopedics.

"Kasama na rin po dito ang general checkup, minor surgery; ang tanging naiwan na lamang po sa ating lumang OPD facility ay ang facilities for cataract screening at Center for Women's Health," they added.

From April 3 to 11, the new OPD facility at the BCH had served a total of 412 patients, based on data provided to OpinYon Laguna.

Gradual opening

Officials of the BCH also informed OpinYon Laguna that other facilities inside the new hospital are expected to be opened to the public either by April or May of this year, following the completion of the necessary equipment.

“Hindi po siya as simple as lilipat tayo [sa bagong gusali], then we will continue operations, na parang nagbubukas po tayo ng tindahan,” Dr. Melbril Alonte, BCH Medical Director, explained to OpinYon Laguna.

“Particularly, we have major areas, such as our pharmacy, our laboratory, and our X-ray units na kailangan po nating kuhanan ng permit from government agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). Then we still have to submit them to the Department of Health (DOH); it needs a lot of patience.”

As part of this gradual opening of other departments and facilities at the BCH, a monitoring team from the DOH’s regional office conducted inspections and assessments last March to ensure that the hospital’s facilities meet government regulations.

“In fact, magko-conduct po ulit ng monitoring ang mga tauhan from DOH after 30 days to ensure na kung anuman po ang nirekomenda nilang improvements sa Biñan City Hospital ay nagawa na po natin,” Alonte added.

“Pero rest assured po ang ating mga kababayan that every step is guided by our national agencies to ensure that we could give the very best medical services for our constituents.”
