The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said it will conduct national earthquake drill on Thursday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) announced that it will conduct the 2022 Fourth Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on November 10. NDRRMC encouraged the public to participate in the government's ongoing efforts to improve earthquake preparedness.

The Paranaque City Government will be hosting the ceremonial pressing of the button and the full-scale exercise, focusing on an 8.3 magnitude earthquake with a tsunami scenario in the coastal communities, Manila Times reported.

The event also supports today's observance of the World Tsunami Day.

The agency emphasized that the Philippine National Police MARIG, Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine Air Force will work together to demonstrate their combined efforts for water search and rescue and air rescue capabilities, and the interoperability of their communications systems. The exercises will also test Parañaque City’s contingency plan for tsunamis.

The NDRRMC reiterated its call on schools, businesses, private and government offices, and the public to strictly observe minimum public health standards when conducting evacuation drills.

Similar to the Third Quarter NSED, businesses may decide not to hold evacuation drills if the situation doesn't allow it.

Through the Facebook sites of NDRRMC and Civil Defense Philippines, the event will be live-streamed.

This fourth quarter's NSED is the second face-to-face drill since the pandemic.
