Virtual exhibits, art fairs, and festivals await artists and enthusiasts looking forward to Museums and Galleries Month 2021 with the theme “Showcasing the Nation, Shaping the Filipino ImagiNation”.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is asking everyone to celebrate this year’s Museums and Galleries Month (MGM) with them virtually.

Virtual exhibits, art fairs, and festivals await artists and enthusiasts looking forward to MGM 2021 with the theme “Showcasing the Nation, Shaping the Filipino ImagiNation”.

“We encourage every institution to bring out new stories or reinvent presenting old ones of figures and events accentuating humanity, heroism, and progress that represent these as inherent Filipino traits,” writes NCCA regarding this year’s theme.

MGM is observed every month of October under the Presidential Proclamation No. 798, signed in 1991 to spread awareness and cultivate pride in the rich Filipino culture and heritage.

NCCA has laid out the schedule of events in the MGM 2021 microsite which includes NCCA-initiated events and those initiated by partner organizations.

The soonest event is Juan in Feeling Yellow, an online webinar about art as a form of therapy by Dr. Dinah Nadera, along with participating artists, Angelica Jacoba and Asaliah Reiiel Reyes.

Next Tuesday, catch the guided 360-virtual tour of Kristoffer Brasileño’s “Ilonggo Republic” art exhibit which was at the NCCA Gallery last month.

NCCA will also be holding MGM’s flagship webinar series, “MGM K N B?”.

The first webinar will focus on the basics of setting up a virtual exhibit and the software programs used for such activities, while the second tackles what digital curation is and how it can help museums and galleries to reach their audience in an increasingly digitized environment.

“MGM K N B?” Basics of Virtual Exhibits will be held online on October 19, 10:00 a.m. while the Digital Curation webinar is on October 26, 10:00 a.m.

For this month, the NCCA Gallery mounted “IRAYA: Beyond Limits” by the Antique-based RAHMAG group of artists which includes Rey Aurelio, Kwesi Pearl Faith Magdato, and more.

Other events include the Mindanao Art Fair and Exhibit 2021, Manila Art Fair, and the 11th Tam-awan International Arts Festival.
