NCAA is still firm on opening Season 97 in March.

THE National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has its eyes set on bringing back sports competitions with a March 5, 2022 opening date even amid the rising Covid-19 cases in the Philippines.

After a two year pandemic hiatus NCAA Season 97, will kick off the season with online tournaments such as online taekwondo and online chess. Season 97 will have the theme “Stronger Together” as all schools continue to grapple with the pandemic.

Team sports like volleyball and basketball are still not finalized with regard to the changing Alert Level classifications that NCR is experiencing.

This comes after the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) gave the go signal for teams to be back in training. This is a big step in the comeback of face-to-face sports in the near future.

CHED also set the January 31, 2022 date as the resumption of face-to-face classes in select courses in areas under Alert Level 3.

“We at St. Benilde are ready for bubble coaching in basketball and volleyball earlier than the change within the alert degree classification, however now similar to different member colleges, we’re ready for the go-signal,” St. Benilde sports activities director Stephen Fernandez told the Sports activities Radio.

But while the league is starting, NCAA Management Committee chair Dax Castellano of host College of St. Benilde said fans would still be barred from watching games live. “No audience for now, but they can watch games in GMA 7 channels,” said Mr. Castellano

Working hand-in-hand with the league is its new broadcast partner GMA Network.

NCAA Season 96 was also conducted online led by the host school Letran. The season officially kicked off on June 14, 2021. Sports that were included are poomsae competition, speed-kicking competition, online chess and taekwondo competitions.
