The Armed Forces of the Philippines honored and gave importance to military reservists during a media briefing at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City last Friday, September 22. Maj. Gen. Joseph Ferrous Cuison, commander of Naval Reserve Command; Maj. Gen. Joel Alejandro Nacnac, Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs and Commander, and Maj. Gen. Elpidio Talja of the Air Force Reserve Command, paid tribute to reservists who compliment national security and exhorted them to continue to dedicate themselves as the base of expansion of the regular force in the event of war, invasion or rebellion, and to assist in relief and rescue during disasters or calamities, in socio-economic development and in operation and maintenance of essential government or private utilities.
The AFP reservists program is open to all aged 18 to 65 years old. Since 1979, after then President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr. declared September 1 as the 'Araw ng Laang Kawal Pilipino' or Reservist Day.
