Authorities in Northern Samar have launched an investigation into allegations raised against a district hospital in the municipality of Laoang following complaints circulating on social media about the treatment of a patient at the facility.

Provincial officials said they are verifying claims that hospital staff allegedly failed to respond promptly to a patient seeking emergency care.

The allegations, which were shared widely online by relatives of the patient, raised concerns about the hospital’s handling of emergency cases and the availability of medical personnel.

Local officials emphasized that the claims remain under review and that a formal inquiry is being conducted to establish the facts.

“We are looking into the matter and gathering the necessary information to determine what really happened,” a provincial official said, noting that the investigation will include interviews with hospital personnel and a review of medical records and procedures.

The district hospital in Laoang serves residents from several island and coastal communities in northern Northern Samar.

Like many public health facilities in remote areas, it plays a crucial role in providing primary and emergency medical care to local residents.

According to provincial authorities, the complaints stem from allegations that the patient was not immediately attended to upon arrival at the hospital.

Family members claimed the delay may have affected the patient’s condition, prompting calls online for accountability and improvements in hospital services.

Officials said the investigation aims to determine whether hospital protocols were followed and whether any lapses occurred in the delivery of care.

“We want to make sure that our health facilities provide proper and timely services to patients,” the official said.

“If there were shortcomings, appropriate actions will be taken.”

Health administrators also noted that district hospitals across the province often operate under challenging conditions, including limited staff, equipment shortages, and high patient demand.

These constraints can affect the speed and capacity of medical response, particularly in emergency situations.

The issue has also drawn attention to broader healthcare challenges in the province.

Public hospitals in Northern Samar serve thousands of residents spread across 24 municipalities, many of which are located in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.

Despite these challenges, provincial officials stressed that patient welfare remains a top priority and that all complaints will be taken seriously.

“We encourage the public to allow the investigation to proceed so that we can establish the truth,” the official added.

Authorities said the results of the inquiry will determine whether administrative measures, policy adjustments, or additional resources are needed at the hospital.

The provincial government is expected to release further findings once the investigation has been completed.
