The Northern Samar provincial government is working to strengthen its collaboration with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to boost disaster risk reduction and emergency response capabilities in the province.

Northern Samar Vice Governor Clarence Dato recently met with MMDA officials, including Chairman Romando Artes and newly appointed General Manager Nicolas Torre III, to discuss plans for further strategic partnership between the LGU and the agency responsible for the National Capital Region (NCR).

Dato said the meeting reaffirmed MMDA’s commitment to support Northern Samar, particularly in disaster preparedness and response initiatives.

“The MMDA plans to include Northern Samar’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) personnel in upcoming training programs at its Disaster Risk Reduction Preparedness Training Center in Cavite, which will provide more opportunities for capacity-building for local responders,” Dato said.

The MMDA was among the first national agencies to assist Northern Samar during the 2023 shearline-induced flooding, demonstrating its long-standing support for the province.

The provincial government expressed optimism that this partnership will continue to enhance disaster preparedness, coordination, and community resilience in Northern Samar.
