Manila Water continues its efforts in providing clean and potable water in the East Zone.

Manila Water continues to step up its water service expansion program as over 7.4 million consumers in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal province now enjoy a 24/7 clean and potable water supply.

As of September 2022, Manila Water had set up a total of 1,142,884 water service connections, made up of 1,088,097 domestic connections and 54,787 commercial and industrial connections. This totals to serving 7,446,386 of the population, Inquirer reported.

The reason for the increased water access is due to Manila Water’s intensified service expansion program in the Rizal province.

Manila Water was able to complete 40 pipe-laying, mainline extension, and individualization projects throughout the province in the third quarter of 2022, which benefitted 13,500 families.

To help an additional 3,469 families, Manila Water plans to complete 10 more pipe-laying projects in Rizal before the end of the year.

Sewer services

Connections to sewer services were up by 5,011 from 268,934 connections in July to 273,945 connections in September.

The water company maintains its regular desludging of septic tank with 11,014 septic tanks emptied during the same quarter as part of its regular desludging caravan for area not yet connected to Manila Water’s sewer network.

Manila Water understands the need to reach out to its underserved and unserved customers and provide them with an uninterrupted piped-in water supply despite challenges in distance and terrain in its service area due to the continuous growth of the population in Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces.

Jeric Sevilla, group head for Corporate Communications Affairs of Manila Water, said that the agency is committed to address the growing demand for water and wastewater services within the concession area. The services have been extended to 7.4 million customers, up from the 3.1 million customers in 1997, since Manila Water took over the operations of the water and wastewater system of the East Zone 25 years ago.

“As we anticipate further increase in demand for reliable water supply, sewerage and sanitation services, we will continue build infrastructure to ensure water security, service continuity and accessibility as well as promote environmental sustainability. These are the major pillars of our service improvement plan in the coming years.” Sevilla concluded.
