The MSU-IIT in the 2023 QS Asian University Ranking is a great source of pride for Iliganons and the region is home to thousands of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Former congressman and now Mayor of Iligan City Frederick Siao said the inclusion of the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in the 2023 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asian University Ranking is a great source of pride among Iliganons.
MSU-IIT is an economic powerhouse because it is a key reason Iligan is an education hub here in Northern Mindanao. It is the centerpiece of the education sector here.
Given the presence of MSU-IIT and other educational institutions, the city is home to thousands of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
Iligan has become a magnet for young, highly-skilled freelancing information and communication technology workers in part due to MSU-IIT and its status as a hub of higher education.
Iligan City is now an IT portal in the real and virtual worlds as unveiled at the Philippine Online Freelancers Conference (POFCON) held recently in Iligan City.
“We have made Iligan City IT professionals friendly, ushering MSMEs into the digital space so they can increase their incomes and create jobs,” said Siao.
“The economic potentials of Iligan City and other LGUs would be further unleashed when in-person classes are at 100 percent and when all our residents are fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID and other diseases,” he cited
Further, the Department of Health (DoH) said the first batches of new COVID-bivalent boosters would arrive in the Philippines in December.
“I hope here in Iligan City we can start giving the new boosters by January so we can start 2023 right. We were under lockdowns for too long in the recent past. We do not want to go back to that,” it said.
“We want a strong local economy and COVID-free Iliganons,” the agency added.
