Enjoying MRT-3’s free ride program? You can continue to ride it for free until May 30.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is extending the free-ride program of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) until May 30.

Originally made to run from March 28 to April 30 only, the “Libreng Sakay” program was announced on March 22 to celebrate the massive and comprehensive rehabilitation project of MRT-3.

DOTr Secretary Art Tugade said that the MRT-3 free ride aims to promote the improved services and facilities of the rail line to the public.

With many people returning to on-site work and the rising cost of fuel and gas, the transportation secretary hopes this will help ease the financial burden of commuters.

The MRT-3 free ride extension will continue to follow the schedule/operating hours of the rail line from 4:40 a.m. to 10:10 p.m.

DOTr MRT-3 OIC-General Manager Michael J. Capati recently shared that from March 28 until April 26, a total of 7,227,434 MRT-3 passengers were served.

Prior to the free ride, the MRT-3 recorded the highest ridership of 258,989 on March 25, while the ridership hit its highest 335,993 on April 8 during the free ride program.

MRT-3 will also continue to deploy the 4-car CKD train sets during peak hours. As of March 27, Capati shared that the line has 18 3-car CKD train sets in operation.

“I-avail n’yo po ang libreng sakay. Yan po ay makakatulong para ma-ease naman natin ng kaunti ang mga gastusin natin dahil tumataas ang presyo ng mga bilihin,” Capati said.
