“If there is a conflict between the Philippines and a foreign enemy, are you ready to fight for your country?”

That was the question posed to ordinary Filipinos during a survey conducted by OCTA Research from December 10 to 14, 2023.

This survey, commissioned by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), was conducted in light of the increasing aggression of China towards Philippine efforts to protect its sovereignty over the West Philippine Sea.

Notably, however, the survey did not specify which country could come in conflict with the Philippines.

The results were released yesterday, showing that 77 percent of the participants were willing to fight for their country in case of a conflict.

Across areas, willingness to fight for the country was highest among respondents in Mindanao at 84 percent, followed by those in balance in Luzon at 79 percent, Metro Manila at 76 percent, and the Visayas at 62 percent.

Across age groups, it was highest among 45-54, followed by 25-34 and 35-44, 18-24, 55-64 and 75 above and 65-74.

The commissioned survey had 1,200 respondents and a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percent for national percentages.
