THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) lauded former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III as a leader who brought fiscal stability and economic growth to the country.
In a statement issued Friday (June 25), BSP said Aquino “led the nation through six years of sustained growth that helped uplift the lives of the Filipino people.”
“It was under his administration that the Philippines received its first investment grade rating from an international credit rating firm,” the central bank added.
The BSP also said it “deeply appreciates” Aquino’s support for the BSP’s mandates and advocacies, especially in ensuring a stronger and more capitalized central bank through the release of its legally mandated equity infusion in 2012.
“In June 2016, he also signed the law institutionalizing the Financial Inclusion Steering Committee, the governing body tasked to implement the government's National Strategy for Financial Inclusion.”
Aquino, who served as president from 2010 to 2016, passed away Thursday morning (June 24).
He was scheduled to be buried today (June 26) at the Manila Memorial Park in Paranaque City, beside his parents, former President Corazon Aquino and former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. (ONT)
