Health experts have said Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila are now on a decline, prompting some government officials to recommend more relaxed Alert Level 3.

MALACANANG Palace has approved the downgrade of Metro Manila's quarantine classification from Alert Level 4 to Alert Level 3 starting October 16 up to October 31.

"The IATF on Wednesday, Oct 13, 2021,approved the recommendation to place the National Capital Region (NCR) under Alert Level 3 beginning Oct 16, 2021 until Oct 31, 2021," Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a message to reporters Wednesday (October 13).

Health experts have said Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila are now on a decline, prompting some government officials to recommend relaxing protocols.

"My personal opinion is for a downgrading to alert level 3 of NCR (National Capital Region). Again this is personal. Need to analyze the metrics based on data,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in a text message to media earlier today.

Businesses have also appealed to the government to relax quarantine rules in Metro Manila, which will allow more businesses to reopen and recover from the effects to last month's Covid-19 surge.

Metro Manila has been placed under Alert Level 4 since last September, the latest tactic by the IATF to manage the Covid-19 surge.

Under Alert Level 3, previously restricted businesses will be allowed to operate at 30-percent capacity, with an additional 10 percent if they have secured a safety seal from the government.

They can also accept all customers regardless of vaccination status.
