Who would ever think that a Waraynon from Mondargon, Northern Samar would rise from obscurity to fame?
His vehicle: a food business of pares (a cupful of cooked rice and a fried meat) along the deserted area by Manila Bay.
The Waraynon is Deo Jarito Balbuena who became sensational when he offered a relatively cheaper price of meat meal on a regular personal serving basis.
Deo, better known as Diwata, soared to popularity when he began vlogging his wares and people flocked to him even more.
This food vlogging brought Diwata to media attention so he was featured in various television shows because of his underground economy food business.
The rest is history.
Because of fame, party-list operatives saw his potential as an attraction to the midterm elections next year.
In no time at all, the Vendors party-list got him as a nominee to their group.
But people wonder why did he allow himself just to be the fourth nominee of the party-list when he can command a number one place in the political organization.
“Ginagamit lang siya ng Vendors party-list kasi sikat siya. Dapat ay hindi siya pumayag na nag-number four nominee lang siya. Maling hakbang ‘yon ng grupo. Mas may epekto kung number one siya sa nominasyon (The party-list is just using him because he is popular. He should have not agreed to be just the fourth nominee. That is a wrong move by the group. It is more effective if he is the number one or the first nominee),” commented entertainment writer Art Tapalla from Hilabaan, Dolores, Eastern Samar.
