Not only because he just won the coveted Best Actor award in the recently concluded 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival for his arresting performance as a prisoner in the movie "Green Bones" that he recently donated a large sum of money for Persons Denied of Liberty (PDL).

Right after Dennis received his trophy, he instructed a production staff of his film outfit, Brightburn Entertainment (which he shared with wife Jennylyn Mercado), to contact the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for coordination on how to facilitate the donation of P100,000 to the institution for the welfare of PDLs who are languishing in jail.

The money is to help better the condition of PDLs like aiding them in their pursuits of cottage industry like papier mache making for sale while in incarceration.

This will earn them money while easing up their emotional burden like ennui, depression and anxiety while inside prison walls.

Trillo got a P100,000 cash prize as best actor of the 50th MMFF.

According to a Facebook site Educational Info and Trivia, Trillo was thrilled and inspired to help the PDLs.

The Dumaguete City-rooted actor, whose father Abelardo Leslie Ho hails from Negros Oriental, was always ready to embrace altruism anytime, anywhere.

Dennis, Abelardo Dennis Florencio Ho in real life, does socio-civic actions even outside of the Christmas season.

PDLs were Trillo's inspiration in essaying the role of Domingo Zamora, a prisoner who is up for parole but his freedom is blocked by his jail warden played by Ruru Madrid for murdering his loved ones.

In a statement by Entertainment Info and Trivia, it said that Dennis believes that one of the lessons taught by "Green Bones" is to understand the situations of a PDL.

Dennis and his wife Jennylyn Mercado both agreed that PDLs should be showered with hope.

"Pareho kami ni Jen na gustong ibigay ang halagang napanalunan ko para sa mga PDL at para matupad ang kanilang mga munting hiling sa kanilang (Jen and I gave the money I won to the PDLs so that their wishes come true from the) Tree of Hope," said the Tsinoy actor.

"Lagi ko pong sinasabi na ngayong araw ng Kapaskuhan, ayoko na pong magpa-stress sa pakikipag-kumpitensya o pakikipagpagalingan sa kahit kanino man dahil pakiramdam namin, panalo na kami nung naipasok pa lang sa 10 entries dito sa 50th anniversary ng Metro Manila Film Fest ang ‘Green Bones.’ Kaya palakpakan po natin ang mga sarili natin. Winners tayong lahat (I always say that during this holiday season, I don’t want to be stressed about competition o the struggle from being the best against anyone because I feel that the mere fact that out of the ten entries to the festival, our film was chosen. So let’s give ourselves a round of applause. We are all winners)," gushed Dennis during his acceptance speech at the 50th MMFF Gabi ng Parangal.

Dennis was handed a silver statuette of the 2024 MMFF created by Filipino-American visual artist Jefre Manuel Fugueras.

"Green Bones," a GMA Pictures’ project, is directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker Zig Dulay.
